My name is Miss Joanne (Joanne Saunders), Certified Early Childhood Educator and I have been in child care since 1978. I am a retired foster parent of 20 years and have adopted 3 children as well as having 3 biological children. My training has been in many different philosophies including The Reggio Philosophy of Early Education from Italy. I have been on the Board of Directors for The Association of Early Childhood Education for 10 years in which I have been President, have taught Early Childhood Education in the Continuing Education at Algonquin College, have advocated for services for families at many different venues and remain committed to serving children and families in whatever way I can.
My name is Miss Melissa, and I am very happy to be a part of the Little Acorn family since 2015. Previously, I ran my own home daycare for 3 years, and prior to that I worked for 11 years at a local credit union. What better place to blend my skills and past experiences together than here at Little Acorn. I have two children who also enjoy their time spent at Little Acorn a well as Acorn. I look forward to learning alongside the children and meeting and communicating with their families.
Ernest Blais taught elementary school after receiving a degree in Education. He left teaching to study painting, and, by happy chance, was offered a job near the university at a childcare centre where he discovered a work environment that he loved. In Edmonton he later worked in a francophone preschool and at the college demonstration childcare centre.
Through his work at the college, Ernest and a team of Early Childhood Professionals visited Reggio Emilia in Italy to learn about the city’s model for Early Childhood Education; his special interest was the atelier (art studio) and the role of the atelierista (the visual arts educator).
In Ottawa Ernest worked at Andrew Fleck’s George Street Centre and at Good Morning Creative Arts and Preschool in the Glebe. He is very pleased to be part of Little Acorn Early Learning Centre community.
Ernest grew up in northern Ontario, lived in Alberta, and now resides in Aylmer, Quebec. He and his wife have three children.
Hello! My name is Danielle; I am a bilingual registered early childhood educator. I studied Éducation en Services à l’enfance at La Cité collégiale and graduated with honors in 2011. I
am very excited to join the Little Acorn team in the toddler room. Since entering the field, I have worked with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children. I got into childcare because having the chance to contribute to and observe a child’s development is something I find extremely rewarding. I look forward to working with and alongside your child watching them learn and grow.
Hi I’m Erika, I’m an RECE who graduated from Loyalist College.
I began in the childcare field with Catundra Daycare in Belleville where I spent
several years working and completing my ECE diploma online. I also spent
two years abroad as an aupair in Sydney, Australia and London, England. It
was an amazing way to use my experience and travel. I returned home,
applied to graduate and moved to Ottawa. I began my search to find a daycare
in which I felt would be a great fit. I began with Little Acorn in September 2015
and immediately felt it was the right place. I joined Little Acorn permanently
in December as a toddler teacher.
I look forward to continuing to work with our families and children!
My name is Haruna Harris. I’m a registered Early Childhood Educator. I was born in Japan but grew up in Singapore. After moving back to Japan and completing University, I obtained my ECE and Kindergarten teachers license. I have 5 years of work experience at a Japanese daycare centre, and in 2007 I had a volunteer opportunity where I was able to experience the Canadian ECE style. I loved it here so much that I made it my goal to eventually move and become an ECE in Canada.
After a few years of hard work, I graduated with honors from the Basic ECE, and Infant Toddler programs at MTI Community College in Vancouver. These programs focused on the Reggio Emilia style, which I instantly fell in love with.
After working at a few daycares in Vancouver I moved to Ottawa in the summer of 2013 with my husband. I spent some time working at a daycare in west Ottawa before being hired at Little Acorn as one of the opening staff. I am very happy to be working in a Reggio Emilia centre again, and looking forward to building a caring, open, and expressive environment for children.
My name is Jennifer Proulx, Registered Early Childhood Educator. I studied Early Childhood Education at Algonquin College and graduated in 2014. As soon as I began this program, I knew it was the right spot for me. It is such a rewarding experience to work with children and to assist in their development. I first learned of the Reggio Emilia philosophy during my studies at Algonquin College and was immediately drawn to it. This is where I also learned of Miss Joanne and her Acorn Early Learning Centre. From that moment, I knew I wanted to work for her. As soon as I was able, I applied to her Centre and was very excited to learn that Little Acorn had opened. I am looking forward to teaching as well as learning during my time here at Little Acorn Early Learning Centre.
I am a registered early childhood educator. I took the Early Childhood Education program at Algonquin College and graduated in 2013. I decided the E.C.E program was right for me when I was doing my volunteer hours with Scouts Canada with the Beaver division. I loved creating and implementing programs for them to learn from. Prior to working at Little Acorn I worked for another centre as a Program Assistant for a little boy with Autism. I learnt a lot from that experience and will always carry with me the things I learnt. I started working at Little Acorn in November 2014 in the Preschool program and have now found my place in the Toddler program. I am so happy to be a part of the Reggio-Emilia program we have here and I love getting to learn and grow along side of all the children in my class!
Hello, I’m Natasha, one of the preschool teachers in preschool 2. I have graduated from the Early childhood Education program from Algonquin college. I have been working in this field for over 5 years and enjoy creating opportunities for children to grow and learn. I have been a part of the Acorn family for years and so grateful to be back and a part of the Little Acorn family again.
My name is Madison Richardson. I am one of the preschool teachers here at Little Acorn. I have been employed with the Acorn family for about three months, however I came to join the Little Acorn family and have been here for about a month and absolutely love being here. I enjoy working with children and having the opportunity to watch them grow and flourish. I believe every child should be valued and treated with respect. Children allow you to be yourself and get in touch with your inner child. I am extremely happy to be a part of the Little Acorn Team!
